Artist Statement:

Las missions de Alta y Baja California Is a project I undertook, to be able to share my voyage throughout the States of Baja California Sur, Baja California and California as I follow the founding highway, that devout men of God created “El Camino Real” The Royal Highway that interconnected the catholic mission churches.

This personal exploration allowed me to visiting these Missions that time and people have forgotten, while others are celebrated and protected. It is said that “A picture is with a thousand words” my personal exploration of these sites has been life changing, to visit places that though remote still shows it has been affected by the hand of man. In this body of work I have endeavored to capture the essence each of these missions “To capture a library in a picture” in context to the saying earlier mentioned. Through out my travels and exploration I have been enriched by the people I met and the time I had to contemplate these man made structures that are envied with such personal and religious meaning and at moments you can glance of the grander of the first pilgrims to them hundreds of years later.
